Uppuveli Beach by DSK

Trincomalee takes its place in Sri Lankan history from its deep natural harbour, long prized by traders and navies moving along the eastern coast. Uppuveli Beach by DSK sits on 7 acres of family-owned land at Uppuveli, a few kilometres from that harbour town, on ground held by the same family for generations. The name comes from Tamil: uppu for salt, veli for open land, a plain description of the coastline it occupies. A private entrance leads off the main road straight to the sand, so the beach is not a view but a walk. Rooms are grouped by outlook rather than grade: Garden Bliss and Breeze Bliss sit at ground and first-floor level, while Beach Bliss chalets have their own private pool, each around 45 to 52 square metres. Villa Bliss, an eight-guest apartment with three bedrooms and its own pool and garden, suits a family staying together. Two restaurants serve seafood alongside dishes shaped by Portuguese, Dutch and South Indian influence, a mix particular to this stretch of coast. A poolside bar, a gym and a spa round out the grounds. Fishermen still land their catch on the sand at dawn, visible from the terraces closest to the water. Fort Frederick and the Koneswaram temple lie a short drive off, both older than the hotel by centuries. Airport transfers are arranged on request.
