Viatura Hacienda Xtojil

Built during the henequen boom that funded Mérida's grand boulevards a century ago, the hacienda's original casco now holds the restaurant, its stone walls repurposed rather than replaced. Sisal, once cut here for rope and twine sold worldwide, still grows across the surrounding fields. Fifteen tents stand among them, each with a king-size bed, a private bathroom, and a terrace facing the jungle. Two configurations exist: the Pepper Tent, oriented east for sunrise, and the Champagner Pool Tent, one of five with a private pool. A restored casco anchors the grounds, joined by a pool, a fire pit, and a Sound Healing Room built for sessions with Tibetan bowls and gongs. Guests can walk or cycle the estate's paths, since the property discourages motor traffic on site. Henequen workshops trace the plant's old uses, from cordage to the harsh labour system that eventually gave way to synthetic fibre. A working sister estate, Hacienda Sotuta de Peón, sits a short drive off and still demonstrates rope-making on antique machinery. Cenotes lie about fifteen minutes away, Mérida roughly twenty, and Progreso's beaches around twenty-five. Outdoor lighting is kept low to protect the night sky. It remains, above all, a working landscape reused rather than emptied out.
