Vilanculos Private Beach House

Sand runs pale gold below a baobab at the foot of the garden, where a private stairway drops straight onto the beach at Chibuene. The house looks north across open water toward the Bazaruto Archipelago, and from the terraced lawn the horizon holds a scatter of islands and passing dhows. Rebuilt in 2022, the property sleeps six across three bedrooms and two bathrooms, each room cooled by air conditioning and ceiling fans against the coastal heat. It is a compact, self-catering stay. Kilim rugs, handcrafted furniture and local photography fill the open-plan lounge and kitchen, which opens onto a pool, a fire pit and an outdoor dining table set among the lawns. A house maid, handyman and night guard are on hand throughout the stay, with management provided by Mozambique Horse Safari. Beyond the garden, the coast gives onto some of the Indian Ocean's least crowded reefs, and you can arrange diving, game fishing or a sailing dhow out to the archipelago through local operators. Kiteboarders launch straight off the beach below the house when the wind picks up, and stand-up paddleboards sit ready on the sand for calmer days. Chibuene itself keeps a small market and a fresh seafood outlet nearby. The airport at Vilankulo is a ten-minute drive away, and the town itself lies fifteen minutes further down the road.
