Villa Charles - île de Gorée

Set near the church at the centre of Gorée Island, Villa Charles occupies a stone house shielded from the lanes outside. The island itself sits a short pirogue crossing from Dakar, its port framed by old fortifications and colonial-era façades. Behind the villa's walls, a private pool is screened from view, bordered by a garden in flower. It is a compact stay, built for two to four guests. Two double bedrooms open onto the garden and a covered terrace, each with its own bathroom and air conditioning. A table-tennis table and a foosball table sit in the grounds, giving the place a house-party feel rather than a formal one. Breakfast is served each morning, and Wi-Fi reaches the terrace, though the setting favours a slower pace over screens. You can hear the island's quiet in the walls: Gorée admits no cars, and the streets outside carry only foot traffic and the occasional cart. A short walk leads to the restaurant terrace above the old port, where seafood and local dishes are served overlooking the water. Pirogue tours circle the island from here, and boats also run to the Île de la Madeleine nearby. The villa can be booked whole, suiting a couple or a small family who want the stone house, the pool, and Gorée's harbour close at hand.
