Villa Fortuna Heritage Hotel

Villa Fortuna is a fourteen-room hotel run by the Bijavica family, set 150 metres from Mostar's Old Town inside the city's UNESCO-protected zone. The family traces its roots in the area back to the 16th century, and that history shows: in the garden stands a purpose-built stone house, now a small museum of local artefacts and tools. It is worth ten minutes alone. Rooms range from simple singles at 25 to 30 square metres to two-bedroom suites of up to 60 square metres, each with a kitchen and its own dining area. Furniture throughout is hand-crafted, and decoration draws on work by local artists rather than standard hotel fittings. A garden threaded with citrus and rose beds gives the property a quiet centre away from the street, and you can hear a small fountain running through much of it. The hotel draws part of its power from solar panels, a detail consistent with its low-key approach to the old stone architecture around it. Fortuna Tours, the family's own travel agency, has operated since 1989 and can arrange transfers from Split, Dubrovnik, or Sarajevo airports and guided trips into the Herzegovina countryside. A conference room holds up to eighteen people. Check-in runs from 1pm. Breakfast is available but costs extra, booked separately from the room.
