Villa Monticello

Villa Monticello is a sixteen-suite boutique hotel set on Mankata Avenue in Accra. Each suite carries its own name and its own design brief, drawn from a place or a person rather than a house style. The Zambezi runs to cream and taupe with dark timber floors and a kitchenette for longer stays. The Nelson Mandela suite pairs black lacquered cabinetry with gold accents and a round table that seats four. Manhattan takes a skyline mural and a floating black-slab vanity; Elmina works in ocean blues and shield-shaped mirrors; the Nzulezu suite, named for Ghana's stilt village in the Western Region, uses bamboo screening and a draped canopy bed. It is a small hotel with a large range of moods. Suites are grouped as Junior, Executive, Executive Plus and Presidential, so the difference between rooms is scale as much as theme. The hotel runs its own restaurant, the Brasserie, serving a seasonal menu with dine-in, takeaway and outside catering options. Event spaces handle gatherings from a dozen people to two hundred, with a planning team that responds within four hours. Villa Monticello has picked up Ghana's Leading Boutique Hotel award in multiple years running. Check the room list before booking: the name tells you more than the category does.
