Villa Tonoï
A small hillside guest house overlooking Uturoa's bay on Raiatea
Villa Tonoï sits on a slope above Uturoa, looking down over the bay toward the lagoon. The guest house holds a handful of bungalows, each with a private terrace, kitchenette and bathroom, and a mosquito net over the bed. Ceiling fans and tile floors keep rooms cool through the day. Sea views run from the terraces across the water toward Tahaa, and several guests have singled out the outlook over the bay as the property's strongest feature. A pool with sun loungers sits below the rooms, open through the year. Breakfast, continental, is served each morning on a shared terrace; catering can be arranged for other meals. Bicycles are free to borrow, and Uturoa's centre is a short ride away. Boat tours can be organised on request, including sailing and motorised trips for up to twelve guests, along with snorkelling and diving in the surrounding water. Raiatea Airport lies under four kilometres off, and a shuttle can be arranged. It is a small stay, run by owners on site rather than a hotel chain. Check-in runs from 2pm. Pets are allowed on request, and the property lends bicycles free of charge to guests keen to explore the hillside quarter and the shoreline below it.
