Voigtland Guesthouse

Set into a hillside on farmland between Windhoek and Hosea Kutako International Airport, Voigtland Guesthouse occupies a farmhouse built around 1900. The house sits above lawns and gardens shaded by trees, with the surrounding land still run as a farm. Stephan, fourth generation of the family to work the property, keeps Namibia's oldest Simmentaler cattle stud here, and the guesthouse operates alongside it rather than apart from it. Gustav, a giraffe raised on the farm, wanders close enough to the garden that guests take tea within feet of him. It is a rare thing to eat cake beside a giraffe. Birdlife is constant across the grounds, and guides lead hikes and mountain bike routes through the terrain surrounding the house. Nature drives cover open ground where antelope move through the bush, with a guide who knows the land well enough to find them. Rooms mix African and European furnishings against the original structure of the farmhouse, and the dining rooms retain the scale and layout of the early build. Evenings tend to end on the terrace, where the staff pour gin and tonics as the light drops. The guesthouse lies around thirty minutes' drive from Windhoek, making it a practical stop at either end of a Namibia itinerary. Visits require booking ahead; day guests are not admitted.
