Volcano Lodge, Hotel & Thermal Experience

Set at the base of Arenal Volcano, a short drive from La Fortuna, Volcano Lodge occupies grounds thick with tropical planting and threaded by a walking trail. Waterfalls sound through much of the property, feeding two free-form cold-water pools and two separate thermal hot spring areas drawn from natural mineral water. One thermal area keeps a swim-up bar and low evening lighting; a second, quieter zone holds hidden pools at varied temperatures. The lodge counts 66 rooms and suites, each with a private terrace facing the volcano, the gardens, or both. A number of rooms hold their own private thermal plunge pool. Rooms are cooled by air conditioning and stocked with a fridge and a coffee maker, plain comforts rather than flourishes. Sura Bar & Bistro seats up to 120 and stays open-air, so diners catch the volcano view and the sound of falling water alongside a menu of Costa Rican dishes made with local ingredients. Chonete Thermal Sport Bar runs poolside into the evening, with swim-up and dry seating for a slower drink after dark. Beyond the grounds, the surrounding rainforest and Arenal Volcano National Park supply canopy tours, hanging bridges, and guided hikes past howler monkeys and toucans. It is a working base for the volcano's edge, not a resort sealed off from it. Room service runs into the evening for anyone who would rather stay put.
