Waiheke Waterfront Lodge
Set on the shoreline of Huruhi Bay, Waiheke Waterfront Lodge looks out over Auckland's Hauraki Gulf from The Esplanade in Oneroa. The ferry crossing from downtown Auckland takes about 35 minutes, and the lodge sits a five-minute drive from the terminal, with transfers arranged by the hosts. It is a small lodge: four suites, each with an unbroken sea view and a super king bed, some with an added king single for flexibility. Bathrooms are serviced daily. A sub-tropical garden runs from the guest lounge down toward the bay, and an enclosed spa pool sits beyond it for after a day on the water. Mornings bring a two-course breakfast built from island produce, with coffee refilled as long as guests linger. Kayaks, paddleboards and mountain bikes are free to take out, and a stretch of coastal path leads from the door toward Little Oneroa beach. Oneroa village, with its restaurants and shops, is a 12 to 15-minute walk along the shore. Inland, Waiheke's vineyards run across ridges shaped by the same sea breezes that cool the lodge's terrace at night. Hosts Pip and Andy, who oversaw the property's refurbishment, handle bookings for wine tours, fishing charters and the boutique wineries scattered around the island. Check-in runs from 2pm.
