West Bay Lodge Resort & Spa

West Bay, on Roatan's western tip, fronts a stretch of white sand and reef close enough to reach on foot. West Bay Lodge sits a short walk inland, its bungalows arranged through tropical gardens around a pool fed by a small waterfall. It opened in 2006 and has kept a family-run feel since. Each bungalow has its own porch and hammock, a kitchenette, and a bathroom with a rain shower; some come with mahogany cabinets and granite counters. The reef runs close along this side of the island, and snorkellers can reach coral within minutes of leaving the sand. Roatan Marine Park's dive sites lie a short boat ride further west. Grounds are shaded by mature trees and dotted with rescued animals the lodge has taken in over the years, from tortoises to parrots. On site, Kristi's Island Kitchen serves seafood and island dishes, and a spa offers massage and facial treatments in a garden setting. Rooms run from a compact adjoining bungalow to a two-bedroom condo with its own pool deck. It is a low-rise, low-key stay. Staff arrange tours: zip-lining through island canopy, boat trips to Cayos Cochinos, dolphin encounters, and fishing charters. The beach itself is a three-minute walk, its water calm and clear enough to see the reef from the shore.
