A Landrover takes guests out across the Wharekauhau estate to spots the guide favours, chosen for their setting rather than convenience. There, a private picnic is prepared and cooked on site, with some dishes finished right in front of guests over an open flame. The idea is simple: food tastes better where it comes from, eaten in the paddocks, gullies or coastline it was grown or caught near. The stop lasts a few hours, giving time to eat slowly and take in the surrounding land before heading back to the lodge.
