Seal Colony & Lighthouse Tour

A day-long drive along Palliser Bay's rough coast to Ngawi, a small fishing settlement where boats and tractors still work the beach. From there the route continues to one of New Zealand's largest colonies of brown fur seals, resting on open rock and sand. Guests can climb the nearby lighthouse for views over the strait towards the South Island. The return leg stops at the Lake Ferry Hotel for fish and chips, looking back across the water. The tour leaves the lodge at ten in the morning and returns around four in the afternoon, suited to all ages.
