White Grass Ocean Resort
Set on Tanna Island's sheltered north-west coast, White Grass Ocean Resort & Spa looks out over a reef shaped by the island's volcanic geology. Little fresh water runs off the land here, which keeps the water unusually clear and exposes cave systems, reef walls, and swim-throughs offshore. Green sea turtles frequent the reef, and a resident dugong is a regular sighting. Fourteen island-style bures sit in tropical gardens, each with a sea view, a private terrace, and an en-suite bathroom with tea and coffee facilities. The resort's dive operation, run through its own PADI centre, is the only one on the island and holds PADI Eco Certification for Melanesia. Guided snorkelling runs out to Turtle Reef, and gear for both snorkelling and diving is included or available to hire. The restaurant and bar stand on raised ground above the coast, where whales and dolphins pass between July and October. Meals draw on produce from the Lenakel market and seafood landed the same day, including crayfish, tuna, and mahi mahi. At Nabisa Day Spa, treatments use volcanic pumice, ash, and coconut oil pressed from Tanna's own palms. It is a quiet, working stretch of coast. Mount Yasur volcano and nearby villages are within reach for day trips, and the airport lies a short drive away.
