Zoah Surf Boutique Hotel

El Paredón sits on Guatemala's Pacific coast, a black-sand fishing town turned surf stop where mangrove channels run behind the beach and the swell arrives steady and warm. Zoah Surf Hotel & Zoah Café sits sixty metres from that shoreline, close enough that guests can walk from their villa door straight into the waves. It is a small hotel, just six villas built by hand from palm leaf, mangrove wood and eucalyptus bark, each with its own patio, outdoor shower and air conditioning. Rooms run from the one-bed Bali, tucked behind a private garden, to Honolua, a loft-style villa that sleeps up to six. Uluwatu faces the sunrise, its wooden deck strung with hammocks for watching the light come up over the water. Beyond the beach, guides lead kayak trips through the mangrove reserve, some as short as ninety minutes, others running three and a half hours out to a lagoon where green sea turtles feed. Fishing tours go out for three to four hours, and yoga classes run with a view of the ocean. Check-in runs from 3pm. Evenings settle quietly, though nearby bars can carry sound past dark.
