Acacia Gastehuis (KATHU)

Set on Stinkhout Street in Kathu, Acacia Gastehuis works as a quiet base for travellers passing through South Africa's mining country. Heavy vehicles are turned away at the gate. Rooms range from a small double with shower, suited to solo guests, up to a king room with a full en-suite bathroom and a bed that converts to two singles. The Queen Room carries antique touches and a writing desk, a detail repeat guests single out. Every room comes with fibre internet, DSTV and air conditioning, along with a coffee station and complimentary bottled water; some rooms add a fridge and microwave. During load shedding, battery-powered lighting and two spare free-standing lights per room keep things running, and fibre internet continues for up to three hours. The guesthouse has no generator, but water pressure stays constant regardless. Parking is secured and free, though no space is available for commercial vehicles, and a laundry service and outdoor pool round out the facilities. Check-in after 8pm is not possible, and early arrivals carry a small non-refundable fee. Visitors without a booking are not admitted. It caters chiefly to business travellers, though leisure guests are welcome, with the understanding that there is no barbecue area on site.
