Aldeia das Adegas

Guests arrive in São Roque do Pico, a village on the north coast of Pico Island where basalt walls run between the vines. Aldeia das Adegas takes its name and its shape from the adegas, the old stone wine cellars once scattered across this coast, and the ten houses here are built in that same rough basalt. Each is compact, roughly 35 m², with a kitchen, air conditioning and Wi-Fi; the four two-bedroom houses sleep up to four adults, the rest up to two. It is a short walk to wine cellars and a working harbour used for whale-watching trips. The Atlantic sits a few minutes off, and Pico Mountain, Portugal's highest point, rises behind the village. Breakfast is not included but can be ordered as a basket of Azorean produce, delivered to the door and eaten outside in the morning sun. A bar on site pours local wines, brandies and island liqueurs. Guests can borrow the reception team to book boat trips, hikes or transfers to and from the airport or ferry terminal. The surrounding landscape, a UNESCO-listed patchwork of vineyards and lava-stone walls, is walkable from the door, as are the lava tube at Gruta das Torres and the coastal drive around the island. Check-in runs from 3pm. The property holds Green Key certification for its environmental practices.
