Anantya By The Lake

Lily ponds line the pathways. Chittar Lake stretches beyond the villas. Rubber trees planted three generations ago encircle the property — a working estate granted originally to chieftains under Travancore rule, consolidated by European planters in the early twentieth century, and held by one family since 1957. Anantya By The Lake occupies 31 villas arranged across six categories on the lake's edge in Kanyakumari District, southern Tamil Nadu. Each villa opens to the water or surrounding plantation through large windows and outdoor living spaces; exposed brick, mud walls, handmade roof tiles, and rubble masonry form the finishes, following principles drawn from architects Laurie Baker and Geoffrey Bawa. The two Sadhana Pool Villas include a separate living room, dining table, and private plunge pool set within walled gardens; floor-to-ceiling openings frame views across the lake toward distant hills. Four Veda Pool Villas add outdoor jacuzzis beneath glass ceilings and thatched gazebos. Five Prana Jacuzzi Cottages place hot tubs outdoors, edged by lily ponds and wide verandas. Seven Chakra Cottages share a central yoga court. Five Tatva Cottages face gardens rather than lake, with outdoor bathtubs positioned under open sky. The property arranges guided plantation walks ending at a lookout called the Love Nest, fishing on the lake, pool zorbing, cycling routes through rubber groves, and traditional board games including Pallanguzhi. Excursions reach Padmanabhapuram Palace, Thiruvattar Temple, Kanyakumari's Vivekananda Rock Memorial, and the twin peaks of Kalimalai and Kurushumalai. Guests swim in the lake. Children use a dedicated playground and pet resident rabbits. The Base Camp runs rope-course activities.
