Turtle Nesting Adventure (additional cost)
From November to February, leatherback and loggerhead turtles come ashore at Sodwana Bay to lay eggs, and this outing puts guests on the beach to witness it. Guides drive along the empty shoreline after dark, scanning for fresh tracks left by turtles as they haul themselves from the Indian Ocean toward the dunes. Once a female settles on a nesting spot, guests watch her dig a chamber and deposit a clutch that can number close to one hundred eggs. The activity depends entirely on the season and on the turtles' own timing, so each outing is different. It runs at an additional cost, booked separately from Phinda Rock Lodge's standard game-viewing programme.
