Turtle Nesting Adventure (additional cost)
Night drives along Sodwana Bay tracking nesting turtles
Skip to product information
Between November and February, leatherback and loggerhead turtles come ashore at Sodwana Bay to lay their eggs, and this excursion follows them by night. Guests drive along the deserted coastline after moonrise, scanning the sand for fresh tracks leading up from the Indian Ocean. Once a female is found, the group watches her dig a nest and deposit a clutch that can number up to one hundred eggs. It is a seasonal activity, dependent on the turtles' own timing, and offered as an addition to Phinda Vlei Lodge's usual roster of game drives and walks.
