Zuka Lodge occupies the western portion of Phinda Private Game Reserve, where wooded hills and valleys close in around a waterhole that draws game through the day. The lodge has four thatched suites — three standard suites and one family suite — all facing that waterhole, so animals come to you between drives. The whole lodge can be taken on an exclusive basis or rooms booked individually.

Each suite has a circular bath chamber, indoor shower, twin handbasins, and a decked veranda with lounge chairs. The family suite adds a children's bedroom and a shared sitting area. Shared facilities include an interactive kitchen, indoor dining and sitting rooms, a small library with complimentary internet, and a swimming pool on an extended wooden deck.

Game drives go out in the early morning and again in the late afternoon, continuing after dark with spotlighting. Rangers and trackers also lead guided walks from the lodge — reading tracks, identifying flora, and finding smaller wildlife at ground level. A separate morning outing takes guests on foot to track black rhino by following sign through the reserve with a specialist ranger and tracker.

Phinda's position in northern KwaZulu-Natal puts several additional outings within reach: the coral reef at Sodwana Bay, a boat trip on the Mzinene River, leatherback and loggerhead turtle beaches along the Maputaland coast, and a visit to a Zulu community just outside the reserve. The lodge also participates in an active pangolin reintroduction programme, and guests can join monitoring work in the field.
