Ashnil Samburu Camp

Set beneath doum palms on the Ewaso Nyiro River in Buffalo Springs Game Reserve, the camp lines the riverbank below Ol Olokwe mountain. Nineteen tented suites spread along the water, each with a raised wooden deck facing the river and the wildlife that gathers there. Parquet floors, mosquito-draped beds, a dressing area, and en-suite showers with robes and toiletries furnish each tent. Nine hold queen or king beds, seven twin beds, and three triple beds.

Game drives cross Buffalo Springs to track reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, gerenuk, Somali ostrich, and beisa oryx. Guided walks with a naturalist reveal tracks, plants, and birds across the semi-arid country. Bush breakfasts serve sparkling wine under acacia at dawn; bush dinners and barbecue lunches unfold in lantern-lit clearings. Sundowners pour cocktails at chosen spots along the river as light drops. Visits to a nearby Samburu settlement can be arranged.

The restaurant overlooks the river and serves international, oriental, and African dishes. An open-air bar stocks beers, cocktails, and spirits. A swimming pool sits among sun loungers and garden beds facing the savannah. The lounge offers a seating area for conversation or quiet.
