Chameleon Backpackers Guesthouse

Chameleon Backpackers sits on Voight Street in central Windhoek, a few minutes' walk from Wernhill Shopping Centre, restaurants, and the city's main attractions. Off-street parking is available if you arrive by hire car or 4x4, and an airport shuttle can be arranged.

The rooms cover a wide range: four- and six-bed mixed dormitories, budget singles and twins with shared bathrooms, standard en-suite doubles and twins with air-conditioning, and luxury rooms with tea and coffee stations. The six-bed dorm has lockers for valuables. The family room holds a double bed and a set of bunk beds, with its own en-suite bathroom.

A free city walking tour leaves daily at nine in the morning — practical if you have just stepped off an overnight flight. The alfresco self-catering kitchen overlooks the pool and garden; a bar and a daily home-cooked evening meal are also available, with pizza on request.

Two booking operations run from the property: Chameleon Safaris arranges multi-day camping and accommodated safaris across Namibia, and Chameleon Holidays is a travel desk focused on self-drive itineraries through Namibia and neighbouring countries. The property has been operating since 1995 and runs on solar power with water and waste recycling systems. The team is made up largely of Namibians working in tourism, which shapes how the place is run and how guests are received.
