Chamilandu Bushcamp

Chamilandu sits on the bank of the Luangwa River in South Luangwa, Zambia, inside an ebony grove that shades three reed-and-thatch chalets built on stilts. The camp takes a maximum of six guests. Two chalets are configured as twins with two queen-sized beds each; one is a double with a king-sized bed.

Each chalet is open-fronted, catching a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree view across the river toward the Chindeni Hills. The en-suite bathrooms are open to the sky, so you shower under the tree canopy and, at night, under stars. Black mosquito netting runs across the open face of the chalets; it is fine enough that the river view reads clearly through it at night. A raised veranda on each chalet gives you a place to sit during the midday heat.

A thatched bar and dining area overlooks the same stretch of river. A game-viewing hide is positioned over a watering hole that draws a range of wildlife. On-site activities include walking safaris, game drives, and birding — the river and its lagoons support considerable birdlife. The camp also offers high tea and a sala for guests to use.

The camp season runs from June through November. Laundry service is complimentary, and battery charging facilities are available.
