Three-day Sangwala Trail hike across Malawi's montane grasslands
The Sangwala Trail is a three-day, 43-kilometre trek through montane grasslands and woodlands in Nyika National Park. It starts at Chelinda Lodge, proceeding southwest to the Sangule camp on day one. Day two covers about 15 kilometres from Sangule to the Zungwala River camp, passing Lake Kaulime. The final day is the most challenging, with a steep ascent and three stream crossings to the airstrip's western edge. The hike includes sightings of antelope species, zebras, warthogs, and various birds. Camping equipment, meals, hot water showers, and eco toilets are provided at camps. Hikers carry only a small day bag.
