Claridge House
Claridge House is a three-bedroom self-catering property on Bethel Farm Estate, sitting on four hectares of farmland alongside the Klein Caledon River at the base of the Maluti Mountains. Every room looks out over the valley and the mountains. The drive from Johannesburg takes about three hours.
The house sleeps six adults across three bedrooms, with space for two children on a mezzanine level. Inside, the floors are whitewashed wood and the furniture is antique; the house is fitted with underfloor heating, electric blankets, heated towel rails, and percale cotton linen — practical details that matter when winter nights in the Free State drop hard. Each room has a fireplace, and there is an outside shower for warmer months. A cleaning service runs during your stay, and secure parking, laundry facilities, and braai facilities are all on site.
Clarens sits in a sandstone valley with art galleries, fly-fishing on the nearby rivers, hiking trails, horse riding, mountain biking, paragliding, and hot-air ballooning available nearby. The property is malaria-free.
Bird watching, cycling, and self-guided walks are available directly on the farm.
