Daka Plains

Daka Plains sits on low foothills at the north-western edge of Hwange National Park, on a private concession that gives the camp access to night drives — something not available everywhere in the park. Below the camp lie the Deka floodplains and seeps, the headwaters of the Deka river, which pull game into the valley and give the site its wide horizon.

The camp holds eight units built from local rock, canvas and thatch, designed to sit low against the hillside. Each has hot and cold running water, a flush toilet, an external shower, a verandah, and mosquito netting. Room three is configured for families. The camp sleeps a maximum of fourteen guests across all units, which makes it well suited to groups or families who want the whole place.

Game drives go out in the morning and again in the late afternoon, each lasting around three hours. Night drives run in the early evening, using spotlights to pick up nocturnal animals. Guided walking safaris run in the mornings with armed professional guides, moving slowly enough to read tracks, plants and smaller animals that you pass too quickly from a vehicle. The resident guides are Ian Batchelor and Fisher Ngwerume.

The main area has a stone fireplace, a stocked bar, a library of safari books, and a front deck that looks out over the floodplains. A pool is on site. Airport shuttle and laundry are included.
