Dar Ben Gacem Pasha

Light enters through carved gypsum windows onto hand-painted tiles and walls hung with glass paintings. Dar Ben Gacem comprises two restored houses in the Medina of Tunis: Dar Pasha on Rue du Pacha and Dar Kahia four minutes' walk north. Both date to the 17th century and hold fifteen rooms between them. Pasha offers seven; Kahia offers eight. Each room is individually designed with handmade Tunisian furniture, embroidered textiles, and private bathrooms. Traditional T-shaped rooms feature wall-to-wall elevated beds and salon areas for reading or working. Junior suites open onto balconies overlooking interior courtyards.

Room Najma at Pasha preserves carved stars in gypsum, wood, and stone. Room Kallalin at Kahia includes two windows, a work desk, and hand-painted tiles. Suite Chamla on the first floor includes a private outdoor area within the room. Kahia houses a private collection of over 400 Tunisian ceramic pieces spanning two centuries, displayed throughout the house. Breakfast is served daily in the courtyard or rooftop and includes Tunisian dishes from neighbourhood suppliers. Upon request, the kitchen prepares Tunisian meals adapted to dietary requirements.

The property operates as a social enterprise and reinvests profit in building restoration and community employment. Staff arrange Medina walks, calligraphy sessions, cooking classes, and transport. Dar el Harka, a co-working space between the two houses, is available for guests. Laundry takes 24 hours; babysitting requires notice.
