Deteema Springs Camp

Deteema Springs Camp sits on a slight rocky rise above a set of year-round water seeps in the north-western section of Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe. The water draws animals in large numbers — elephant especially — and because it runs through every season, the camp produces reliable game sightings whether you arrive in the dry months or during the rains.

The camp holds eight tented suites: seven double or twin tents and one family tent, which takes children aged six and above. The tents are deliberately compact — smaller than the standard Machaba Safaris build — with decks, en-suite bathrooms with running water, shower, bath, flush toilet, fans, and a lounge area. A pool is available on the property. The main dining and sitting area is also tented, raised on decks with a direct view over the springs, and guests eat communally or separately as they choose.

Game drives run morning and evening. Walking safaris go out in the mornings with armed guides, moving slowly enough to read tracks, plants, and smaller animals that a vehicle passes without stopping. Hwange records more than four hundred and twenty bird species across the park; from November to April, migratory species from Europe and northern Africa add to the resident count. Night drives are also available.

The camp opened in 2019 and is operated by Machaba Safaris. An airport shuttle is available, and the property has complimentary Wi-Fi and laundry service.
