Duke's Camp

Duke's Camp sits on a private island in the northern Okavango Delta, surrounded by the clear channels that define this part of Botswana. The camp is named for Sarefo 'Duke' Sarefo, who was born on this island eighty years ago; his family connection to the land runs through the founding of the camp. It is part of the same operation as Jack's Camp on the Makgadikgadi Pans.

Eight canvas safari suites stand on raised wooden decks under ebony and leadwood trees. Each tent holds hand-carved four-poster beds, Persian rugs on wooden floors, mahogany sideboards, brass fittings in the en-suite bathroom, and a private viewing deck with leather campaign chairs. Twin, double, and family configurations are available. Every suite has a complimentary minibar, mosquito netting, an outside shower, and a safe.

The main area includes a lounge, a communal dining tent with a long vintage table, and a firepit. Meals are three courses, served with crystal glasses and antique silverware.

Game drives cover a large concession where elephant, red lechwe, sitatunga, wild dogs, and big cats move through seasonal floodplains and waterways. On the water, guides pole mokoro through lily-pad channels and take guests out on motorised delta boats at sunset. Catch-and-release fishing is available seasonally. Scenic helicopter flights over the Delta and a visit to the Tsodilo Hills — a UNESCO World Heritage Site holding more than four thousand San rock paintings — are available at additional cost, accessed by helicopter. The camp also has a pool and spa.
