Dumela Wilderness Safaris

Dumela Wilderness Safaris sits inside the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park on the Mozambique side, where two kilometres of Limpopo River bank and the Mugano lagoon run through the property. The park connects across unfenced borders to Kruger and Gonarezhou, and elephant, buffalo, hippo, crocodile, leopard, kudu, bushbuck, and nyala move through without restriction.

Guests choose between three distinct campsites: one on the riverbank, one inside a patch of forest, and one on a low hill with views across the surrounding terrain. A shared unisex bathroom serves all three positions.

The Pafuri area holds more than four hundred and fifty recorded bird species — a figure that puts it among the most productive birding areas in southern Africa. The Pel's Fishing Owl is one of the draws: a large, rufous owl that hunts fish from branches over the water at night and is rarely found away from dense riparian habitat like this. The river, the lagoon, and the forest canopy together produce a layered habitat that accounts for the count.
