Eastbrook River Lodge

Scroll
Set on a farm along the Hoogekraal River outside Sedgefield, Eastbrook River Lodge keeps its nine cottages spread through pasture and stands of indigenous forest, each named for a local bird. The river runs a two-minute walk from Woodpecker and Olive Bushshrike, both fitted with corner baths and double showers for a quick rinse after the water. A freshwater dam sits nearby for swimming. Each cottage has its own kitchenette and braai; a communal braai area serves those travelling in groups. Lourie sleeps a larger party across two rooms, with bunk beds, a queen and a sleeper couch sharing one bathroom. Narina Trogon and Emerald Cuckoo suit couples wanting fewer neighbours and more forest. It is a quiet stay. Activities stay simple and mostly free: canoeing and catch-and-release fishing on the river, cycling through the Seven Passes, bird watching from the verandah, and stargazing once the farm goes dark. Guests can also swim in the property's natural spring. The lodge sits within reach of the wider Garden Route and its coastline, and works as a stop en route to Addo Elephant Park further east. Wi-Fi reaches the cottages, and parking is secured on site. The setting rewards those content with a river, a fire, and no schedule.
