Perfect for Birding, Flora, Hiking, Leisure, Nature, Relaxation, Wildlife

Encounter by Ongava is an unfenced tented camp set inside Ongava Game Reserve, a thirty-thousand-hectare private reserve that shares a boundary with Etosha National Park in north-central Namibia. Mopane woodland runs up to the camp on all sides, and because there is no perimeter fence, lion, rhino, and antelope move through the area freely.

The camp holds eight tents in total. Seven are en-suite twin-bedded tents; the eighth is a paired tent — two identical rooms set at an angle to each other, each with its own bathroom and entrance, connected by a short curved walkway, which suits families or two travelling companions who want proximity without sharing a room. Each tent has a deck, outside shower, fan, and mosquito nets.

Activities run morning and evening. Afternoon and evening game drives cover the reserve, where white and black rhino are both present alongside lion, zebra, and the endemic black-faced impala. Full- or half-day drives run into Etosha to reach the saltpan and the perennial springs that concentrate game. Guided nature walks are offered seasonally, on foot among the Mopane and acacia, with the possibility of approaching white rhino on foot. Rhino tracking is listed as a dedicated activity. The camp also has access to the Ongava Visitor Centre, which holds displays on the reserve's geology, wildlife, plants, and ecological research.
