Entamanu Ngorongoro

Entamanu sits on the outer, less-visited rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, looking directly across it from the Malanja Depression side. The camp holds seven cottage-style rooms — two configured for families — and three two-bedroom cottages, all facing the crater. Rooms are built with heaters, wool textiles, and down duvets because the altitude demands it: the sun at this elevation is strong, and the wind off the rim can be sharp and loud. Every fitting is locally handcrafted, and the whole structure is designed to be entirely removable — the site is inside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and that shapes every design decision.

The crater itself is thirty minutes by road from the descent track. An early start gets you onto the crater floor ahead of most visitors. Crater game drives are the main activity, but the camp also runs guided walks along the rim and into the surrounding highlands, led by a guide and a member of the local Maasai community. You learn plant uses, read animal tracks, and take in the elevation views across the volcanic hills. Occasionally the camp visits the Maasai boma in the next valley — a working pastoral community that grazes cattle inside the conservation area — where the reception is informal and the conversation direct.

The camp has a bar, communal dining, and complimentary laundry. Internet access is available. A private vehicle can be arranged for transfers and excursions.
