Esperanza Beach House

Esperanza Beach Lodge sits on Paindane Bay in Inhambane province, facing the Indian Ocean and the reef that runs along the bay. The reef keeps the water calm enough for swimming and snorkelling, and the bay draws a consistent ocean breeze that keeps the site effectively free of mosquitoes.

The lodge is built for groups. Five self-catering chalets range from a two-person apartment to a five-bedroom, fourteen-sleeper chalet, with configurations of six, eight, and ten in between. Each unit has a fully equipped kitchen — gas stove, electric oven, fridge and deep freezer — along with fans, a television, mosquito nets, and linen. The larger chalets have en-suite rooms, a loft, and a scullery. Every unit includes a braai area and a splash pool on a wooden terrace or lapa, and all look out over the ocean. A housekeeper works through each unit daily, and the property has around-the-clock security patrols.

The Cantina Esperanza beach bar sits on the sand directly below the chalets. It serves traditional Mozambican food and cold drinks, and has a large screen for sport and events.

Activities on the bay — diving, snorkelling, fishing, ocean safaris, and whale watching — can be arranged through the lodge. Airport transfers are available. To reach the property, you will need a 4x4 vehicle.
