Flatdogs Camp

Framed by jackalberry trees and overlooking a waterhole, the raised wooden platforms of the Jackalberry Treehouse give views over game moving to drink. Flatdogs Camp stands on the Luangwa River in Mfuwe, metres from the main gate of South Luangwa National Park. The camp holds twenty units across four types: ten chalet rooms in four buildings, seven luxury tents, three classic tents, and two private houses. Each chalet building contains two rooms—one downstairs with a verandah, one upstairs with a private bathroom below—and a shared kitchenette with a fridge and kettle. Luxury tents stand under thatch with full-sized beds, fans, mosquito nets, and semi-open bathrooms with hot showers. The Crocodile Nest is a three-bedroom tented house with a private pool, dining deck, and dedicated guide. The Jackalberry Treehouse is built around three ebony trees with two bedrooms and an open sitting deck between them. Guides lead morning drives departing at 06h00, afternoon drives leaving at 15h30, and walking safaris that last three to four hours. Night drives continue until 20h10 when the park closes. The restaurant serves an à la carte menu at all hours with gluten-free and vegan options, daily specials, and dishes made from locally grown vegetables and free-range meat. You can hear hippos from the riverbank. The camp holds Fair Trade Tourism certification for solar power, local employment, and community investment. Two swimming pools, wireless internet in the main area, and a reference library are available. Each guest stay directs fifteen dollars to Conservation South Luangwa and Project Luangwa.
