COMMUNITY VISITS
This visit centres on the Batwa, an indigenous forest people, who demonstrate skills once central to daily life: old hunting methods, honey gathering, fire making by traditional means, and basket weaving. Traditional dances form part of the exchange. Guests spend time with community members near Gorilla Heights Lodge, learning directly from those who hold this knowledge. Proceeds and attention from such visits support the Batwa in keeping these customs active rather than letting them fade. It pairs naturally with the lodge's other low-key outdoor activity, bird watching, as a change of pace from gorilla trekking days.
