Gorongosa Safaris - Muzimu Lodge

The lodge occupies a curve of the Mussicadzi River in Gorongosa National Park, central Mozambique, one of two camps within a million protected acres at the southern end of the Great Rift Valley. Six tented suites stand raised above the riverbank on timber platforms, each with a private deck facing the water or surrounding floodplain. King or twin beds, en-suite showers, ceiling fans, and mosquito netting are standard; filtered drinking water and a coffee station sit inside each tent. Canvas walls and solar power keep the footprint light.

A pool, lounge, and dining deck overlook the river. Spa treatments are carried out on private tent decks. Meals use locally grown ingredients; Gorongosa coffee and honey appear at breakfast and dinner. Bush dinners can be arranged under the stars. The lodge operates a bar and offers laundry service.

Open safari drives cross floodplains and fever-tree forest in search of lion, elephant, waterbuck, and wild dog. Guided walks begin at camp and follow animal trails through riverine vegetation. Seasonal boating and canoeing run on Lake Urema when water levels permit, typically April to early May. Guests staying five nights or longer may join a morning pangolin foraging walk led by the park's veterinary team. Tours of the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Lab run Monday to Friday, subject to availability. Community visits introduce guests to villages adjacent to the park. Helicopter flights over Mount Gorongosa and the Urema floodplain can be booked. The camp operates from 1 April to 30 November each year.
