Governors' Il Moran Camp

Governors' Il Moran Camp sits on the bank of the Mara River, inside forest, with ten tents spread along the water's edge. Hippos hold the shallows below the dining deck; elephants move through camp; at night you hear hyena and lion from the tent. The location is the camp's defining fact — the river, the forest canopy, the animals that come to the water.

Each of the ten tents is large, with a king-size bed made from reclaimed olive wood, a Victorian-style bath, a verandah, and a lounge area. The tents are spaced for privacy. Beds carry pure cotton linen, and a complimentary mini bar is stocked in each room. The main mess tent sits on raised wooden decking over the river, with a sunken fire pit that is lit in the evenings.

Game drives go out twice daily with guides trained in the Masai Mara. Hot air balloon safaris launch from a site fifteen minutes from camp — guests assemble before dawn and lift off as the light comes up over the Mara. Bush dinners are served on the Mara River bank by camp chefs, under lanterns. Sundowners are set up at a fixed spot on the river after the afternoon drive. Massages are available on site.

Cultural visits to a local Maasai village can be arranged, with entry fees paid directly to the community. Guests can also visit Mara Rianda Primary School and Mara Rianda Medical Centre, two community projects supported by Governors' Camp Collection, at no additional charge. The camp holds a Gold Eco Rating from Eco-Tourism Kenya.
