Governors' Mugie House

Governors' Mugie House sits on a hill inside Mugie Conservancy, a privately managed area on the Laikipia Plateau, north of Mount Kenya. You book individual cottages — five double cottages with fireplaces and bathtubs, one suite with a private plunge pool, and one family cottage with interconnecting rooms and a plunge pool — all positioned to face the open Laikipia plains. A main house with log fires serves as the shared dining and sitting space. A waterhole below the lodge has an adjacent hide where you can watch game come to drink without leaving the property.

Because the conservancy is privately managed, activities go beyond what national parks permit: day and night game drives in private 4×4 vehicles, guided bush walks, lion tracking, anti-poaching demonstrations, canoeing on Mugie Dam, e-bike rides, and a nine-hole golf course. Guides schedule each day around your group's interests rather than a fixed timetable. The conservancy connects the Laikipia plateau to the Mathews Range and Samburu lands, and supports resident populations of Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, elephant, lion, leopard, Beisa oryx, and Jackson's hartebeest.

Scheduled flights serve Mugie Airstrip from Nairobi and the Masai Mara, with a road transfer of around twenty minutes to the lodge. A road transfer from Nanyuki takes approximately three hours. There is no minimum age for children, and laundry is done daily at no additional charge.
