Grootberg Lodge

The restaurant at Grootberg Lodge occupies a stone-and-thatch building set at the plateau edge in Damaraland, where the dining room faces the full width of the Klip River Valley below. The kitchen and service staff are all drawn from the local conservancy community that owns the lodge outright — the first middle-market lodge in Namibia to operate under full community ownership.

The dining room has a fireplace, which matters at plateau altitude when the evenings cool quickly. Guests eat on a dinner, bed and breakfast arrangement; the kitchen also puts out cakes with tea or coffee in the afternoon, which serves as the practical starting point for the guided Moringa walk on the plateau. Breakfast is taken on the veranda before activities head out.

Vegetarian options are available alongside the standard menu. The bar serves the same room.

The lodge accommodates sixteen guests across fourteen twin rooms and two family units. The restaurant is the social centre — the place where trackers report back on rhino and desert elephant sightings, and where the day's routes across the twelve-thousand-hectare conservancy are discussed before and after each drive.
