Grumeti Hills

Set on a wooded hill above the western edge of the Serengeti, Grumeti Hills looks down over open plains where elephant, lion, giraffe and buffalo move freely. The lodge sits inside the Grumeti Wildlife Management Area, a buffer zone bordering Serengeti National Park to the south and west, with the Grumeti River running just two kilometres away. It is a quiet stretch of country. Wildebeest and zebra pass through during the Great Migration, in May and June and again from October to December.
Twenty-two tents stand on raised platforms, each with a private terrace facing the bush, a king bed, wooden flooring and an en-suite bathroom. A separate honeymoon tent adds a bathtub. Walking safaris leave at 7am with a naturalist guide and an armed ranger, covering easy ground for an hour and a half to two hours before a bush breakfast by the river, where herds often come to drink. Night drives run in electric four-wheel-drive vehicles fitted with thermal cameras, among the first of their kind in East Africa. Common areas include a rock-set pool, a restaurant and a lounge, and the whole camp runs on solar power. Massages are offered by the pool. Check-in and check-out both run on a 10am schedule.
