Hemingways Watamu

Set along Garoda Beach within the protected Watamu Marine National Park, Hemingways Watamu occupies two wings on Kenya's Indian Ocean coast. Sixty rooms and suites face the marine reserve across ground, first, and top floors. Every unit carries an ocean view. The four-bedroom penthouse duplex spans two levels with living and dining space plus furnished terraces on each floor; two master bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, two twin bedrooms share adjoining facilities. Two-bedroom suites range from 200 m² to 305 m², the larger carrying the Deluxe designation. One-bedroom suites approach 150 m² and include a fully equipped kitchen. Deluxe ocean-view doubles and twins, located in the North Wing, open onto private balconies. All bathrooms are marble-tiled.

Hemingways Watamu Brasserie serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner al fresco. Gede Café, whose structure references the nearby Gede Ruins, offers a lighter menu. A spa, gym, and outdoor pool sit within the property. Tribe Watersports, down the beach, runs kitesurfing and stand-up paddleboarding instruction. PADI certification and guided dives take place year-round on the fringing reef; depths range from 6 to 30 metres. Snorkelling gear is available for use inside the lagoon. Sunset dhow cruises depart with drinks and seafood on cushioned decks. Vipingo Ridge, a five-star golf course, lies 40 minutes by road. The 13th-century Gede Ruins are accessible by car.
