Hlosi Game Lodge on Amakhala Private Game Reserve
Scroll
Set on a hillside above the Bushman's River plain, Hlosi Game Lodge looks out over grassland where the reserve's Big Five roam. Amakhala is malaria-free, which makes it a straightforward choice for families. Fourteen rooms are split between safari tents and suites, including two-bedroom options built for families sharing the stay. The tents stand on raised wooden platforms, each with an en suite bathroom, air conditioning and a private deck facing the bush. Suites go further, pairing indoor and outdoor showers with a soaking bath and a separate WC. Public areas are simple: a dining room, a room for reading and a bar, plus shaded verandas over the pool and the watering hole where hippos are often in view from the restaurant. A boma hosts bush braais after dark. Two game drives run daily, one at dawn and one in late afternoon, led by rangers in open Land Rovers across the reserve's plains. Children have their own lounge stocked with games and books, and a shorter kids' drive keeps younger guests close to the lodge. Night drives, birding, bush walks and star gazing are on offer as extras. It is a compact stay, and a family one: exclusive-use bookings cover small weddings and conferences as easily as a weekend with children in tow.
