Hohenstein Lodge

The lodge sits at the base of the Hohenstein, the 2,319-metre peak that forms the western edge of Namibia's Erongo Mountains. Fifteen rooms open onto terraces that face the range or the valley below. Each has twin or double beds, an en-suite bathroom, mosquito nets, a safe, a tea station, a minibar, and a fan. A superior chalet adds one or two bedrooms and a separate lounge. One room is accessible to guests with restricted mobility.

A restaurant and terrace overlook a waterhole where game and birds gather through the day. The Spitzkoppe massif rises from the desert plain thirty kilometres west. You can watch the Hohenstein turn red as the sun drops behind the horizon. Guided half-day nature walks cross the farm's granite outcrops and dry riverbeds, tracking rock formations and the vegetation that holds to the slopes. Signposted hiking trails and mountain-bike routes thread the property. Day excursions run to Spitzkoppe, the Erongo's higher plateaus, and Bulls Party rock-art site. The lodge is malaria-free.

The property lies on the D1935 road, an hour's drive from Usakos and two hours north-west of Windhoek. Staff speak English, Afrikaans, and German.
