Hout Bay Manor Hotel

Built in 1871 on Kronendal Estate, the manor stands in Hout Bay off Baviaanskloof Road, its colonial façade framing a courtyard edged by yellowwood and restored stonework. Interiors layer African textiles, European furniture, and Asian ceramics in arrangements that shift between rooms. Jars of marshmallows and liquorice sit on hall tables.

Nineteen en-suite rooms occupy the original house and two annexes around the garden. Each holds a flat-screen television with satellite channels, air conditioning, underfloor heating, a minibar, a safe, and wireless internet. Bathrooms are fitted with heated towel rails, robes, and products from Cape suppliers. The Sangoma Suite accommodates four guests. You can hear hadedas from the terrace at dawn.
