Ila Safari House

Set on the banks of the Kafue River within Kafue National Park, Ila Safari Lodge is ten tents built around existing trees on raised decks that extend over the water. Eight couples' tents hold double beds, en-suite showers, outdoor showers, and twin vanities; two family tents each contain two bedrooms separated by a curtain and accommodate four guests or two couples sharing. Each tent opens to a private deck facing the river. The lodge is solar-powered. An infinity-shaped central boma houses the bar, dining area, and an infinity pool overlooking the water. The floating spa is moored a short walk from the main deck.

Game drives depart at dawn and late afternoon in electric vehicles that run silently through the park. Guided walking safaris track wildlife on foot with an armed ranger. River cruises operate on a solar-powered boat at sunrise or sunset, gliding along the Kafue in silence. Night drives extend into the hours after dark to reveal nocturnal species. Fishing excursions run from the lodge with tackle and a guide; rod hire is available. A stargazing deck adjoins the boma where guides chart constellations under minimal light pollution. Bush breakfasts and lunches on the boat are arranged on request. You can hear hippos from the deck after sunset. Laundry service, wireless internet, and minibar are complimentary.
