Ila Safari Lodge

Set on raised timber decks above the Kafue River in Kafue National Park, the lodge operates ten tents powered entirely by solar energy. Eight tents accommodate two; two family tents sleep four, with curtain-separated bedrooms and an extra bed available for a fifth child. Each tent stands on a private deck that extends over the riverbank; mature trees grow through the structures. Canvas wraps the frame. Beds are extra-length; mosquito nets are turned down each evening. Bathrooms include showers; several tents add outdoor bathtubs. Double vanities face the water.

Game drives depart in electric vehicles developed for the property—Zambia's first silent game-drive cruisers. Rangers track lion, leopard, and herds across the park. A solar-powered boat cruises the river at dawn and sunset; you hear hippos surface without engine noise. Walking safaris with an armed wildlife officer follow spoor and footprints; routes adjust to preference. Fishing trips run with a guide and tackle; basic rods are available on site. The infinity pool overlooks the river; a floating spa anchors beside the bank. Stargazing sessions take place on a dedicated deck within the boma; light pollution is minimal, and the Southern Cross and Magellanic Clouds are visible. Bush breakfasts and boat lunches are arranged through the lodge. The dining boma is shaped as an infinity curve on the river edge; meals revolve around activity times. A firepit sits under open sky.
