Kaingo Camp

Kaingo Camp sits on the bank of the Luangwa River inside South Luangwa National Park, in a section of the park where leopard sightings are frequent. There are six rooms in total — brick and thatch, built low along the riverbank — plus a larger First House suite positioned separately at the far end of camp, with a dedicated guide and vehicle, butler service, and private dining available.

All rooms have king-size beds (twins available), gauze windows and skylights that keep the river in view, outdoor bathtubs, indoor showers, solar charging points, and a private veranda or deck above the water. The lounge and dining area is open-sided and centred on a leadwood bar; a lower deck extends over the river with sofas for watching game at the water's edge.

Three photographic hides are a short drive from camp. The Elephant Hide overlooks an ancient crossing point where herds come to drink and cross the river. The Hippo Hide is carved into the bank at the confluence of the Luangwa and Mwamba rivers, giving eye-level views of hippo and crocodile. From early September, the Carmine Bee-eater Hide opens once nesting colonies have established in the riverbanks.

Game drives run morning, afternoon, and evening, each lasting around three and a half to four hours with a guide and scout. Walking safaris go out in groups of no more than six. A riverside sleepout called River Song is available for guests wanting a night in the open.

The kitchen draws on produce from the camp's own vegetable and herb garden; meals follow safari timing — brunch, afternoon tea, and a three-course dinner. A complimentary airport shuttle is included.
