Raised on teak decks above the Xudum River, Kanana watches the Okavango Delta's floodwaters rise around its own foundations each year. The camp sits on a stretch of islands strung with palms, fig and ebony trees, in the southwest of the delta. It was rebuilt in 2024. Seven twin and double tents and one two-bedroom family tent make up the camp, each with an en-suite bathroom and walk-in shower; the family tent adds an outdoor shower and sleeps up to five. Tents are spaced well apart, so guests get privacy without losing easy reach of the dining room, bar and campfire deck overlooking the river.
Activities shift with the water. Game drives run morning and evening, capped at six guests per vehicle with a window seat and camera mount each, and often continue after dark for nocturnal sightings. When the delta floods, guides swap vehicles for mokoro and motorboat, tracking sitatunga, fish eagles and painted reed frogs through the channels. Lion, leopard and wild dog hunt the surrounding concession. Birdlife draws particular attention: Kanana's own heronry ranks among the region's largest seasonal breeding colonies, enough to turn casual watchers into committed birders. Guided walks cover the islands, where Pel's fishing owl nests. For one night, guests can sleep out on a raised deck under open sky. Children are welcome from age six.
